Can Canada Move Towards Reconciliation?
Tanya Talaga
President’s Lecture (Sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph)
Tanya Talaga has written three books that grapple with the hard truths of Canada’s history and the Indigenous experience in a colonized land. Through an Indigenous lens, she walks audiences through Canadian history to examine how we arrived at this moment and what is needed to move toward a more equitable future for all.
The Veritas Lecture Series
The Veritas Lecture Series invites speakers from diverse backgrounds to explore the depth of human experience and articulate the truth, the fullness of personhood, to which we each aspire. The Catholic Intellectual Tradition welcomes and embraces this exploration as a means of seeking the common good that enhances this world we share.
This year’s series, The Courage of Encounter, invites us into conversations that ask us to listen deeply, engage difficult truths, and consider our responsibilities to one another. Through discussions on reconciliation, ministry with people experiencing poverty and homelessness, and the ethical questions surrounding medical assistance in dying, the series explores what it means to encounter others with humility, compassion, and a commitment to human dignity.
All lectures take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre. Registration is not required, and free parking is available in the P1 lot beside Wemple. Lectures may be recorded at the discretion of the presenter(s).
As part of the Veritas Lecture Series, guests will be invited to support a community organization related to each lecture's theme through a voluntary donation. For the President's Lecture featuring Tanya Talaga, donations will support Atlohsa Family Healing Services.
