Join Dr. Jeff Preston, Associate Professor of Disability Studies at King's; John Heng, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at King's; Dr. Ramona Coelho, family physician; and author Kevin Andrew Heslop for a thought-provoking conversation on the ethical implications of medical assistance in dying. The discussion will explore medical, philosophical, social, and disability justice perspectives on one of today's most complex public issues. Moderated by Dr. Allyson Larkin, Associate Professor of Social Justice and Peace Studies at King's. Highlights include reflections on 10 years of MAiD in Canada with Dr. Eunice Gorman, and MAiD’s impact on vulnerable communities with Dr. Lisa McLean.

The Catholic Intellectual Tradition welcomes and embraces this exploration as a means of seeking the common good that enhances this world we share.
This year’s series, The Courage of Encounter, invites us into conversations that ask us to listen deeply, engage difficult truths, and consider our responsibilities to one another. Through discussions on reconciliation, ministry with people experiencing poverty and homelessness, and the ethical questions surrounding medical assistance in dying, the series explores what it means to encounter others with humility, compassion, and a commitment to human dignity.
All lectures take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre.
