Access to Information

  1. Home
  2. Privacy
  3. Access to Information
King's provides information to our community and the public through informal and formal requests. Find out how to get the information you want.

Informal requests for information

For information and records that are routinely provided, including King's policies, program information, or your academic records or employment records, simply contact the relevant department.

Formal requests for information

For information that you cannot obtain through an informal request, you will need to submit a formal request for access to information (ATI). Your request must be accompanied by a statutory $5.00 application fee, reference the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and include sufficient detail for King's to identify the record(s).

If you are seeking access to your personal information, your request must also identify the location and time period of the information being requested, if you know. Be as specific as possible in describing the records that you would like to access – the more specific your request, the more quickly and accurately it can be answered. Your request must also include your contact information: name, address, and e-mail address. If you are requesting your own information, include the name appearing on the records and any other identifying number that relates to the records, such as your student or employee number. You will have to provide proof of your identity before records are released to you. If you are requesting records for another person, you will have to provide proof that you have the authority to act for that person.

When King's receives your written request, we will send you an acknowledgment letter. Beginning July 1, 2026, King's is generally required to respond to your request within 45 business days. If your request does not sufficiently describe the record or information sought, staff in the Privacy Office will contact you to clarify your request. Depending on the nature of your request, King’s may need to clarify the scope, issue a fee estimate, consult with affected offices or third parties, apply permitted extensions, or use a staged access process for broad or complex requests.
