The Impact of Scholarships and Awards

My name is Kiza, and I am in my third year of an honours specialization in economics, with plans to add a minor in analytics and decision sciences. I was born in Tanzania, where my parents found refuge due to the wars in Congo. In 2016, we were fortunate to find passage to Canada. We settled in Saskatchewan, then moved to London in 2018. Looking back, it's hard to believe all the twists and turns that my life has taken, and the people who have shaped my path along the way.

The fact that I'm writing this letter is a testament to how blessed I am. I've had people around me who have helped me and challenged me to grow in different ways. I found a church community that I have come to love, and I try to stay involved as much as possible. I enjoy playing basketball in my free time, and I have recently started running as a hobby. I also love reading; one of my favourite books is probably The Count of Monte Cristo, and in some ways I can relate to the story. The "treasure" I have found has been in the people who have helped shape who I am today, and those who have invested in who I can become in the future.

About ten years ago, I was a little boy who didn't speak any English and was overwhelmed by my new surroundings. Here I am today, the recipient of an award that will allow me to continue growing to be more than I ever thought I could be. Your investment in me means more than I can put into words. Your belief in students like me is more than inspiring, and your contribution will not be taken for granted. I am truly grateful.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Sincerely,

Kiza, Third-Year Student

What Students Are Saying

Being able to study at King's is something I'm genuinely proud of. Receiving this award means a lot to me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me and for making opportunities like this possible.

LuisSecond-Year Student

As a full-time student working a part-time job and volunteering, it is not an easy balance. I am independently responsible for my tuition, housing, utilities, groceries, and car payments, and I often find myself stressing over payments. Your generosity has helped ease the financial pressure of my studies and has allowed me to focus more fully on my coursework, research, and volunteer commitments.

ViktoriaFourth-Year Student

This past year has been one of the most difficult of my life, following the loss of my older brother. Continuing my studies and maintaining my academic performance through that grief required resilience, discipline, and support. Receiving this award lightens my financial burden and gives me the space to focus on my well-being, my coursework, and my long-term goals.

Fourth-Year Student

Thank you for donating to establish this award and making it possible for me to receive acknowledgment for the hard work I put in at school. It is difficult juggling school, raising my son, and working. It makes me feel like someone sees the hard work I put into my education, and it gives me great encouragement to keep working hard in my studies.

MichelleThird-Year Student

I should have graduated by now, but working daily to support my family resulted in me failing an academic year. When I returned to school, I worked hard and earned a 73% average. While that may be disappointing to some, it's one of my proudest accomplishments. I will hang this award near my desk as a constant reminder of my hard work and this recognition.
