About the Lydia Li and Family Award

Established by Lydia in 2024 in memory of her mother, this award supports international students in the School of Management, Economics and Mathematics (MEM) who demonstrate strong academic achievement and leadership in building an inclusive and welcoming community.

It reflects the values Lydia has embodied throughout her time at King's: kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to others.

Meet a Student Impacted by Lydia's Legacy

Yuxin, 2025-26 recipient of the Lydia Li and Family Award

Yuxin is an international student in her fourth year of the economics program. She enjoys combining academic growth with creative exploration. During the summer, she worked as a TA and an RA for a professor, which gave her valuable research and teaching experience. She also completed an internship in venture capital, during which she gained insights into business and entrepreneurship.

Beyond academics, Yuxin has a strong interest in reading, writing, and films. She writes book and film reviews on Douban, Letterboxd and Goodreads. She also publishes original creative work online. On campus, she is involved in volunteer and student support roles, including serving as a Peer Guide for the International Office and assisting with events such as Open House and the Career Market. These experiences allow her to build connections, strengthen communication skills, and contribute to a welcoming student community.

After graduating from King's, Yuxin hopes to become a researcher and eventually a professor, contributing to both teaching and scholarly work in the field.

Coming from a middle-income family in China, the exchange rate and higher cost of living in Canada make budgeting as an international student quite difficult. Receiving this award has eased financial pressure and has allowed her to focus more fully on her academic work and research. She is grateful for your support of international students such as herself.

Giving Tuesday

Because of Giving Tuesday donors, students felt supported, nourished and encouraged during the 2025 exam season.

Giving Tuesday - Students selecting lunch options
Over the two-week winter exam period, students were welcomed with healthy lunches designed to fuel focus and well-being. Salads, sandwiches, and wraps provided comfort and energy when students needed it most.

Giving Tuesday - Students with breakfast options
Nutritious snacks, including eggnog overnight oats and fresh fruits, were also available - small touches that made a big difference during long days of studying.

Students with Library Exam Trolley
The Library Exam Trolley was kept well stocked with snacks, beverages, study supplies, and self-care items, supporting students day and night.

Words of Encouragement
Words of encouragement from alumni, parents, faculty, staff and board members uplifted students with study tips, affirmations, and messages of support, creating a powerful reminder of the community standing behind them.

Thank you to our donors who made these moments possible.

Giving Tuesday is the world’s largest generosity movement—a global day of giving that began in 2012 with a simple idea: to encourage people to do good.

On Tuesday, December 2, 2026, we're uniting around something close at heart for all of us: helping our students through the stress of exam season.

We invite you to join in by sharing a few words of encouragement and making a charitable donation that will help:

  • Fill the library trolley with nutritious snacks to keep students energized
  • Provide essential study supplies as they prepare for exams
  • Offer wellness activities that help students manage stress and stay grounded

Your words and your generosity can make all the difference during exam season. Together, we can show our students that they’re not alone!
