A degree in Sociology creates skilled and successful communicators (both oral and written), researchers, and analysts who can enter the working world as imaginative thinkers, with concrete technical and teamwork abilities, verbal and writing expertise, and critical thinking skills that are valued by potential employers. Within the Department of Sociology, King's offers an honours specialization (HSP), major and minor in Sociology.
Understand the “why” of the world. In King’s Sociology program, you’ll comprehend and make connections between individual experiences and the broader circumstances of the society in which you live. You will learn why the wider social context matters in many contemporary social problems, including addiction, consumerism, the climate crisis, global inequality, body image issues, poverty, and cyberbullying.
Our smaller class sizes create a different student experience, one that allows you to network, collaborate, and build community with peers, and to get to know your professors earlier in your academic journey. This can make professors mentors, and create opportunities for you to work as a teaching or research assistant.
Your degree in Sociology can open the door to a variety of interesting and rewarding careers, including social work, law, human resources, journalism, teaching, social policy and planning, policing, corrections, public administration and government.
Unique to King's: a double major in Sociology and Business Management.

What People Are Saying
My time at King's has given me opportunities to volunteer in my community and work with other students to create change. These experiences have helped me to grow my leadership skills.
The Criminology/Sociology program at Kings has been amazing! I do not regret my decision one bit – the content and professors are one of a kind. The professors at King's care about your success in school, which allows for close relationships to be formed. I cannot recommend King's enough for Sociology/Criminology, as well as small, community-knit institution to attend for university!
My decision to come to King's was based on the class sizes, and the campus reputation of feeling like a small community. I wanted an opportunity to grow in an environment where I could create close relationships with professors, faculty, full time staff and my peers. Being a student at King's has reminded me of the self- empowerment, and growth that happens within every single student on campus... and I believe it is truly magical.
The Sociology program at King's has equipped me with the skills necessary to look at the world analytically, and think about complex problems that are most pressing to our society. The small class sizes have allowed for me to develop strong connections with my professors, and engage in meaningful conversation with my peers. Being part of the sociology program at King's isn't just about academics; it's about shaping a future where positive change is possible.
