More than 85% of King’s BSW and MSW grads are employed within 6 months.

In the School of Social Work at King’s, you'll be actively engaged in an inclusive and student-centred learning environment. You'll learn in small classes that focus on the “art and science” of social work and receive an education geared toward critical thinking and complex practice skills. You'll develop professional and practice knowledge, skills, and values to become an ethical, critically reflective, and proficient social work practitioner, researcher and advocate for transformative change within your community.

What is Social Work?

Social Work is a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. It aims to help people develop their skills and their ability to use their own resources and those of the community to resolve problems. Social Work is concerned with individual and personal problems but also with broader social issues such as poverty, unemployment and domestic violence.

Human rights and social justice are the philosophical underpinnings of social work practice. The uniqueness of social work practice is in the blend of particular values, knowledge and skills, including the use of relationship as the basis of all interventions and respect for the client's choice and involvement.

The School of Social Work at King’s University College is a fully accredited professional program

Founded in 1969, King’s School of Social Work is well established and respected by employers, our fellow social workers, and across professional associations and organizations at the provincial, national and international levels. Our two-year BSW and both the one- and two-year MSW programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE-ACFTS). We were granted an eight-year accreditation term with no conditions, the longest term possible, and a testament to the quality of our program. All graduates from our program are eligible to apply for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

At King’s, you’ll be part of a small, select group of students

Your Social Work classes are small – usually 20 to 25 students – and interactive, creating an outstanding learning environment for you. You’ll get personalized faculty support and be part of a close-knit community. You will develop professional skills rooted in social justice, empathy and advocacy.

Your education will include direct practice opportunities, also referred to as professional practicum education, an essential component of your social work education. And while you learn, you’ll make an impact, and improve lives.

At King’s, you’re taught by knowledgeable, dedicated Social Work practitioners

Because of the small class sizes, your professors will come to know you, and will be invested in your success from the moment you arrive. You'll be guided and supported by people who understand you and the work you want to do.

At King’s School of Social Work, direct practice is an integral part of your education

Your social work education will include direct practice opportunities, also referred to as professional practicum education, an essential component of your social work education. And while you learn, you’ll make an impact and improve lives. Social work is a hands-on profession, and we'll make sure you get the direct practice experience you need to further your career. You'll be placed with professionals in a variety of settings, including healthcare, schools and community agencies. During your practica, as with all of your education here, you'll be well supported by Professional Practicum Education team, our faculty notably through our unique, small, group practicum seminars, and by our community of practicum instructors.

We understand and value an inclusive learning environment that focuses on community well-being

You'll be part of a strong community built on inclusion and excellence within our profession. Your success will be fostered throughout your time here and beyond. We have unmatched student supports, including small classes, practicum seminars, academic advising and mentorship, and writing and learning skills assistance if you need it.
