King’s University College is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of personal information entrusted to us by our students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community partners.

Our Commitment to Privacy

Privacy is a fundamental value at King’s and is embedded into how we design our services, operate our systems, and make institutional decisions.

King’s manages personal information in accordance with Ontario privacy legislation, including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), as well as recognized privacy best practices. Our Privacy Framework establishes clear accountability, governance, and safeguards to ensure personal information is collected, used, disclosed, retained, and disposed of responsibly.

How We Protect Privacy

To uphold this commitment, King’s applies the following high-level practices:

  • Accountability and Governance
    We have defined roles, responsibilities, and oversight mechanisms to ensure compliance with privacy laws and institutional policies.
  • Purpose Limitation and Transparency
    Personal information is collected only for clear, legitimate purposes, and individuals are informed about how their information is used.
  • Consent and Individual Rights
    Where required, we obtain informed consent and respect individuals’ rights to access and correct their personal information.
  • Data Minimization and Retention Controls
    We collect only what is necessary and retain personal information only for as long as required by law or operational need.
  • Security Safeguards
    Technical, administrative, and physical safeguards are in place to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
  • Privacy by Design and Risk Management
    Privacy considerations are built into systems, projects, and processes from the outset, supported by privacy impact assessments where appropriate.
  • Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement
    We promote a culture of privacy through training, awareness initiatives, and regular review of our privacy practices.
