We take the safety of our community members – students, faculty, staff, visitors – very seriously. Everyone has the right to feel safe and welcome on here. King's is nestled in a residential community with little foot or car traffic, and we believe that creating, promoting and maintaining a safe and respectful learning and working environment at King's is a shared responsibility. All staff and faculty members at King's take gender-based sexual violence (GBSV) prevention training, and this training is mandatory for first-year students.
Security for King’s is provided by GardaWorld personnel and Western Special Constable Service. The security guards patrol the grounds and buildings regularly to ensure that all systems are functioning properly, buildings are secure and there is no danger to our community.
You can contact King's Security at 519-521-6215 or security@kings.uwo.ca. You can also contact them using the blue phones. Look for the tall blue towers with the blue lights – there's one on the walkway leading from parking lot #2 to the east wing of Wemple Hall, and one at the edge of parking lot #3, on the walkway between the South Annex and the library. Push the button to be connected to Security. There are also help buttons at the parking gates.
If you're on campus at night, Western Foot Patrol members can walk with you. The Foot Patrol team members wear vests, but they can walk without them so it looks like you’re walking with friends. Call 519-661-3650 or download their app, available in the Google and Apple stores, to text them. You'll find hours and more information at www.uwo.ca/footpatrol.
In case of a cardiac emergency, King’s has two automated external defibrillators, and first aid kits are handy in all of our buildings.
