Reimagine and rethink disability! In the Disability Studies program, you'll learn to value diverse positions, people and ideas, and discover how successful inclusion benefits everyone.
In King’s Disability Studies program, you’ll disrupt common understandings of disability and impairment. You’ll learn to reimagine disability as a difference, capacity or gift instead of as a deficit, dysfunction or problem. You’ll analyze, respond to, and diminish the effects of ableism, and elevate the voices and texts of disabled people and their allies.
You'll dive into real-life examples from social media, news, business, and schools, learning how to tackle complex social and economic issues. Through inquiry-based learning, you’ll apply class theories to everyday situations, preparing you to confront and transform real-world challenges. This program broadens the role of disabled people and highlights the potential of embracing diversity. Make a real difference when you walk out the door!
Expand your educational options: take Disability Studies as a major, minor, or as part of a double major. You can also augment your education with courses in American Sign Language (ASL). King's is Western's exclusive home for ASL.
