Research Ethics Review Committee
The Research Ethics Review Committee (RERC) is the sole independent decision-making body at King’s, responsible for the review, approval, and oversight of all research human participants to ensure that ethical standards are upheld. The primary goal of RERC is to protect the rights, dignity, and well-being of participants involved in research.
RERC adheres to the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans – TCPS 2, which provides national guidelines for human research ethics. Canadian funding agencies, collectively known as the Tri-Agency (Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), mandate that institutions eligible to receive funding from any of the agencies, including King’s, must comply with the requirements outlined in TCPS 2.
