Important Information for Staff Using Remote Desktop

Using audio/video software like Zoom, Teams Calling, or MaX UC over a Remote Desktop connection is not recommended.

When you connect remotely to your office computer at King’s, any applications you launch are executed on that machine. As a result, activating your camera or microphone in Zoom/Teams/MaX UC (via Remote Desktop) may only display your empty office chair rather than your image.

 

We strongly advise launching audio and video applications directly from your local device.

Many of these applications can be installed on your personal laptop, desktop, or mobile device. For installation instructions, please consult the following resources:

While Remote Desktop is necessary for specific tasks such as document editing or accessing files on your network drives, many activities can also be performed on your home computer in a web browser.
