The application for Summer 2025 will open February 14th - March 14th, 2025.
Purpose and Scope

The Summer International Work Experience Program (IWE) was designed for students who remain in Canada during the Summer months.  The objectives of the IWE Program are: To offer students training and experience in a Canadian work environment, to provide a source of income during the summer months, and to prepare students for their eventual entrance into the work force.  Students are paid $16.55 an hour (which includes 4% vacation pay), up to a maximum of 182 hours. Student(s), if hired, and their supervisor will select from one of the following contract options;

  • May 1st - August 31st, student can work up to 15 hours a week to a maximum of 182 hours. 
  • May 1st - June 30th, student can work up to 30 hours a week to a maximum of 182 hours.
  • July 1st - August 31st, student can work up to 30 hours a week to a maximum of 182 hours. 

 

Eligibility

To be considered for the IWE Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria.

  1. Must be an International Student (i.e. does not possess Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident or Immigration Residency Status in Canada).
  2. Must have been registered as a full time undergraduate student at King's University College (minimum 60% course load or 40% course load for students with disabilities) in the previous September to April study period and paid international tuition to King's.
  3. Must be available for work in Canada during the summer, for at least 2 months. 
  4. Must have achieved a minimum average of 60% in the previous academic year.
  5. Must be a returning full time undergraduate student at King's, who has completed an Intent to Register for the upcoming Fall/Winter term.
  6. Account must be in good standing with Student Financial Services. 

Meeting the eligibility requirements is not a guarantee of employment. Students approved to participate in the program will be competing with other students to receive an offer of employment from one of the positions listed. 

How to Apply
  • Submit a resume and cover letter to Student Financial Services for EACH of the jobs you wish to be considered for. 
  • Job lists available here once program opens.
  • Applications will be reviewed after the application deadline has passed. 
  • Supervisors will contact those students they wish to interview (please allow 4 -5 weeks from application deadline). Contract start and end dates, along with weekly hours, to be discussed with supervisor when hired. 
  • Applications will not be accepted after 11:59pm on Friday, March 15th, 2024. Please apply early to ensure you don't run into any technical issues at the last minute, when support staff is unavailable to provide assistance. 
 Hiring Process 
  • If hired, your supervisor will complete a contract with you.  The completed contract needs to be submitted to Student Financial Services for processing.
  • The first day students are able to begin working is May 1.

Policy Information

Students working under the I.W.E. Program are classified as part-time employees of King’s University College and will receive a T-4 slip.  These positions carry with them all the responsibilities associated with any employee/employer relationship.  Therefore, it is essential that you:

  • Establish a clear understanding of the hours and days to be worked along with a mutual understanding of your duties and responsibilities.
  • Notify your supervisor of any changes to your agreed hours of employment.
  • Provide your supervisor with hours worked on a weekly basis.
  •  Notify the Student Financial Services Office if you withdraw from the program, in order to make the remaining funding available to other qualified students.
