King's Spring 2024 Exam Season

On this page, you'll find exam season hours and information for the King Student Life Centre, study rooms, the Library, student wellness resources, food services, shuttle buses and other useful information.

Using the King Student Life Centre

  • The King Student Life Centre (SLC) is open 6 a.m. - 2 a.m. from April 9 - 30.
  • The King Centre is open for quiet study from midnight – 2 a.m.
  • Keep your Western ONECard with you as you may need to show it to security during extended hours (midnight – 2 a.m.).
  • Use of rooms in the King Centre is on a first-come basis, unless a room is booked for a meeting. We ask you to be reasonable in the amount of time you use the rooms and to share the space.
  • Student use of rooms in the King Centre can be terminated if rooms are not kept clear of garbage at the end of each study session or if the space is being used inappropriately.
  • Students are not allowed to leave bags, books, clothing in rooms when not in use for study purposes.
  • Those sleeping in the King Centre will be wakened and advised to go home.
  • Any abuse of the use of the rooms in the King Centre will result in the rooms being locked and available only by booking.
     

Study rooms in the King Student Life Centre

You can book study rooms KC203, 204 and 205 for two hours at a time, between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m., from April 9 to 30.


Library hours

Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Sundays from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. 

The library will close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30.

The Write Place

  • Hybrid hours range from Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • To make an online tutoring appointment, visit kings.mywconline.com. You can also find the most up-to-date schedule there.
  • The Write Place will not provide feedback on tests, quizzes, or exams (including midterm, take-home, or comprehensive exams).

Mental health and wellness

The exam period can be a stressful time for students, and we have resources available to students, staff and faculty year round to help you maintain your overall health and well-being. For information on services, check out our Mental Health and Wellness page. 

You can book same-day and ongoing personal counselling appointments with our campus social worker. If you prefer a phone call, Good2Talk provides free, confidential support services for post-secondary students in Ontario. You can reach them at 1-866-925-5454.

The Reflection Room and the Fitness Room will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight during the week, and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekend.


What to do if you are sick and will miss an exam

  • As soon as possible, but no later than two days after a missed exam, complete an Academic Consideration Request, uploading appropriate documentation.
  • If you are ill -- including being ill with COVID-- please submit a Student Medical Certificate (SMC) signed by a licensed medical or mental health practitioner, detailing the duration and severity of illness, or appropriate documentation supporting extenuating circumstances, no later than two business days after the date specified for resuming responsibilities. You can see a practitioner at Western's Health and Wellness Services or through USC’s Purple Care.
  • When possible, inform your instructor before the date of the exam or assignment.

Getting home safely

  • If you are studying late during exams, a free taxi service is available to commute between King’s, Western and Brescia campuses from April 8-29 from 10:30 p.m.-8 a.m. 
    • Chits are available at King's Security – you can call them at 519-521-6215. 
    • Once you have your chit, call Yellow London Taxi at 519-657-1111.
    • A maximum of $11 is covered and you pay the rest.
  • Western Foot Patrol can provide a co-ed escort to your car, bus stop, or other buildings on King’s and Western campus – visit the Western Foot Patrol page for more information.
  • King’s security guards and campus police will be patrolling the campus to ensure your safety.
  • You can park for free in lots 2 and 3 during the exam period. 

King's/Brescia Shuttle Bus

Every day (including weekends) from April 9-30, the exam shuttle bus will run from King’s from 8:00 a.m. - 10:45 p.m. Buses will leave every 20 minutes (with a break from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.). The exam shuttle route stops at the same bus pick-up and drop-off sites as the King’s/Brescia shuttles.
