Alumni Awards Ceremony

King's is pleased to announce this year's Alumni Award recipients! Congratulations to Doug Fry, BA '98 (Political Science), Alumni Award of Distinction recipient and Helen (Abbas) Smith, BA '12 (Psychology and Sociology), Recent Graduate Award recipient.

Alumni Award of Distinction
With over 20 years of experience in the restaurant and consumer packaged goods industry, Doug Fry, President of Subway North America, is known for his exceptional leadership and impact with many notable brands. Beyond his professional success, Doug is committed to community service, serving on boards and mentoring young athletes. His dedication to service began during his time at King's, where he held significant roles with the King's University College Students' Council, including his term as President in 1995-96.

Recent Graduate Award
Helen Smith, Founder and CEO of Roo & You, is recognized for her outstanding leadership, creativity, and resilience. Her innovative company, now Canada's largest manufacturer of modular play couches, is thriving under her direction. As an immigrant and entrepreneur, Helen is deeply committed to inclusivity and empowering women, particularly women of colour. A proud King's alumna, she supports King's students through mentorship and speaking engagements.
