More Information

Why is the Casper assessment required?

From the Acuity Website: CASPer is “an open-response, situational judgment test that evaluates aspects of applicants’ social intelligence and professionalism such as ethics, empathy, problem-solving and collaboration.”

In addition to your grades, our admissions team wants to ensure you possess qualities and characteristics that are indicative of strong educators.

For more information and practice questions, please visit the Acuity website: Taking the Casper assessment - Take Casper (acuityinsights.app)

Why do I need to complete my OUAC/TEAS before December 1st for my Pathway application?

Our admissions team receives 2000+ applications each year. The process for the direct pathway evaluations is different and takes more time than a general evaluation.

To ensure we complete every evaluation on time, we ask our direct pathway to submit their OUAC/TEAS application as soon as possible.

If I hit submit on my OUAC/TEAS application, can I still revise my application/apply to a different teacher’s college?

Yes. Applicants that wish to apply for other programs may do so during the September-December application cycle by re-entering and editing their OUAC/TEAS application.

Do I have to apply to all of my desired teacher’s colleges at once?

No. Each university’s Faculty of Education will have their own application steps and timelines; however, many close on December 1st. Please ensure you read each university’s application rules and guidelines carefully.

How do I apply to both my desired Pathway and general admissions? Are two separate applications required?

All applicants (including direct pathways) will submit the following:

  • an OUAC/TEAS profile,
  • a CASPer assessment,
  • a course declaration form and
  • supplemental documentation that may be required for your situation (Ex: internationally evaluated transcripts, French proficiency results, etc.)

The main difference is that a direct pathway application will come through your university’s direct pathway co-ordinators. Your co-ordinators will provide the Teacher Education Office with a list of students that wish to apply through the pathway. This will ensure your application is evaluated through this process.

Who do I talk to for questions about OUAC/TEAS application assistance?

Our page provides information regarding the OUAC/TEAS profile. (How to Apply - Faculty of Education - Western University (uwo.ca)

During the application cycle, the Teacher Education office will also host virtual drop-in sessions.

Additionally, our website has an orange button on each page (bottom right corner) labelled “Contact us/Chat with us” where a representative from our office can assist you with your questions.

If the representative cannot answer your question in the chat, they will direct you to the most appropriate contact to assist you.

I have graduated from a program that offers a Pathway; can I still use the Pathway to apply to the Faculty of Education?

No. Only currently active students enrolled in an applicable program can apply through the pathway. All other applicants can apply through our general application process.

Will my transfer credits from college work towards my Pathway application?

No. College level credits cannot be considered to support your application.

Can I use a course that has been transformed into a Discovery Credit towards a general background credit or second teachable?

Priority will be given to the best courses on the transcript with grades. If required, the admissions team will consider discovery credits as a program requirement only for Teachable Subjects or General Background Credits.

Discovery credits cannot be used towards average calculations.

What happens if I need to take a summer course or delay graduation?

All admitted students will have until August 31st of their incoming year to complete all their required courses. Students that will have a delayed graduation in the fall should contact welcome@uwo.ca to update their outstanding admission condition deadlines.

When will I find out if I am accepted into the Faculty of Education through the Pathway?

All decisions are released mid-February (Generally around February 15th).

Where can I find my program’s Pathway requirements to be eligible to apply?

Your university should have a webpage dedicated to your direct pathway.

This should be used in combination with our program stream and “How to Apply” sites.

How do I know if a course counts towards a general background credit or second teachable?

Under each program stream’s admission tab there are 2 documents to provide applicants with course eligibility guidance.

If a course is not on either of this list, our office can provide guidance on a maximum of three (3) courses. For guidance please provide:

  • Course Code
  • Course Title
  • Course Description
  • Name of university where the course was taken

EDUC 2200E is full and it is required for my Pathway application, what should I do?

We recommend that direct pathway applicants take EDUC 2200E as early as possible.

If you are in your 4th/final year, and EDUC 2200E is full, please contact the teacher education office via rcole22@uwo.ca or the chat box on our website.
