"How to fail at Everything and Publish a Book Anyways": An Afternoon with Téa Mutonji

Event Description:

Téa Mutonji, the current writer-in-residence at Western, will talk about her journey as a writer, the obstacles that stood in her way, as well as how she overcame them and managed to publish an award-winning book despite “failing at everything.” The event will also feature Mutonji reading from her book, as well as a Q and A session with the audience.  

Author Bio:

Born in Congo-Kinshasa, Téa Mutonji is a poet and fiction writer based in Toronto. Her debut short story collection, ‘Shut Up You’re Pretty’ is the first title from Vivek Shraya’s imprint, VS. Books. It was shortlisted for the Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize (2019) and won the Edmund White Debut Fiction Award (2020) and the Trillium Book Award (2020). Téa is the recipient of the Jill Davis fellowship in Fiction at New York University, where she’s an MFA candidate. She is currently the Writer-in-Residence at Western University.
