King’s is known for being a hub for student athletes, and this fall is no exception. Ontario Hockey League student-athletes have the opportunity to earn tuition towards college or university and this year King’s will be welcoming incoming Mustang Hockey players Ethan Szypula, William Lochead, Kenny Huether, Alex Di Carlo, and David Ovsjannikov, who are set to join the Mustangs roster this fall.
Ethan Szypula grew up in London, but has spent the last five seasons with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey Leauge. The move to the Mustang Hockey roster will reunite him with former teammate Cordell James, who earned Ontario University Athletics West All-Rookie Honours after joining the Mustangs last year. Ethan will be entering the Social Sciences program in the fall.
Another athlete who will be experiencing a homecoming to London is William Lochead, who has previously played with the Niagara IceDogs. Lochead has already played 156 games in just over two seasons in the OHL.
Kenny Huether will be the second Huether on the Mustang roster, joining his brother and veteran Mustang, Ray Huether. Kenny comes from playing with the Oshawa Generals, where he helped the team win a Memorial Cup in 2015. Kenny will be entering the Social Sciences program at King’s in the fall.
Alex Di Carlo, also from the Oshawa Generals, began his OHL career in the 2013-14 season with the Plymouth Whalers. He finished his junior career this year with the Oshawa Generals with a total of 206 regular season OHL games played. Alex will be entering the Management and Organizational studies program at King’s in the fall.
Rounding out the incoming roster is David Ovsjannikov, a veteran goalie, who has most recently played for the London Nationals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Ovsjannikov earned goalie of the month honours in October and December of 2017, and finished out the season with an 18-9-4 (win-loss-tie) regular season record. David will be entering the Management and Organizational studies program in the fall.
Fans will have their first opportunity to see the newest Mustangs on home ice on October 26, 2018, when they will be hosting the Concordia Stingers. Welcome to King’s!
