While shopping at the King’s Connection may mean you’re all set with the latest swag, it also provides an opportunity to support King’s students.

“The King’s Connection is in the heart of the Student Life Centre, creating an easy environment to stop in to look through merchandise before class, after class, and being run by the students’ peers, which makes it a full circle moment,” says Katie Antonissen, Retail Manager of the King’s Connection, who is looking forward to seeing customers in September.

The King’s Connection is owned and operated by the King’s University College Students’ Council (KUCSC), which combines funds raised from the store’s sales with student fees and fundraising events to subsidize the Sophs program, clubs, and events, including Orientation Week, and provide scholarships.

“Ultimately, that money from the King’s Connection goes back to students. When you buy something at the King’s Connection, it goes towards the student experience, and will benefit student life at King’s,” says Taranjet Singh, General Manager of KUCSC.

There are also employment opportunities for approximately 10-12 work-study students. Antonissen says that because the King’s Connection is located on campus, “this makes for the perfect job to balance both study and work life!”

The top-selling merchandise at the King’s Connection is the classic King’s hoodies, supplied to the store by Five One Nine Clothing and Dubwear, both of which are owned by King’s alumni.

Taylor Norris, BMOS '21, and Tyler Wilson, who attended King’s between 2017 and 2021, own Five One Nine Clothing.

Paul Dub, BACS '94, owns Dubwear and, in 1993, started the store as the Pro Shop near where the Subway is located today.

“I am very proud to be selling to my alma mater 30 years after I graduated as my company - Dubwear- was created due to what I learned at King’s as we sell to almost every university and college bookstore across Canada,” says Dub. Dub met his wife, Suzanne, at King’s and their son, Ryan, has recently started at King’s.
