A message from Dr. David Malloy, King's Principal

Dear King's Community,

As we approach the beginning of our fall semester, I join our staff and faculty in looking forward to welcoming our students back, in many cases virtually, but in some cases physically on campus.

I am pleased to report that, throughout the summer, King’s Academic Counsellors and Program Advisors of the Academic Dean’s Office (ADO) have continued to provide full academic counselling services virtually. As we approach the new semester, ADO will continue to virtually support King’s students.

The Academic Dean’s Office has developed a number of ways to continue to virtually support students as they navigate their way through the fall semester:
  • A series of Frequently Asked Questions videos will be created, including “How to choose an elective” and “General Degree Requirements” and several more in the series to be made available throughout the term.
  • The Academic Counselling Helpline was launched July 13 with great success in providing students with quicker response times, immediate information and referral to Academic Counsellors and Academic Program Advisors. The Helpline, staffed by trained student academic peer counsellors, has streamlined service provision, with 70% of enquiries receiving immediate answers.
  • The ADO will begin to provide virtual Drop-In Hours and a LiveChat feature in the fall where students will be able to speak with an Academic Counsellor.
  • In the fall, academic counselling will be provided virtually by Zoom, Facetime, and by phone.
I am proud to see the massive team effort that the ADO has undertaken with help from their amazing work study Academic Peer Counsellors and the successful partnership between ADO and Enrolment Services to ensure our students have the support they need. The hard work, creativity and dedication of the team of Thomas Gray (Academic Dean’s Office), Robin Ellis (Enrolment Services) and Sheldon Lopes (ITS) was pivotal in allowing King’s to move to a largely virtual campus as quickly and smoothly as we did while providing uninterrupted student services when our community needed it most.

As always, as we continue to move forward into the new normal under which we will operate as we begin the fall semester, I welcome your feedback and suggestions via email.
