Mandatory masking paused indoors
June 29, 2022
A message from Dr. David Malloy, King's President:
As the province, industries and the private sector have moved toward the widespread lifting of face mask mandates, so too will King’s pause mandatory indoor masking requirements alongside Western University, Brescia and Huron University Colleges. Effective immediately, students, faculty, staff and visitors will no longer be required to wear masks inside buildings on the King’s campus.
This pausing of the masking requirements will remain in place until September 1, 2022, subject to change. Previous communications stated that masking would be extended until the end of June.
We respect anyone’s decision to continue to wear a mask based on their own comfort levels, health needs and when physical distancing indoors is not possible. Public health officials continue to encourage the use of masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Current public health measures also stipulate that wearing a well-fitted mask in public settings is required for 10 days following symptom onset or a positive test – whichever is earlier.
“This is a step towards returning to normal, thanks to the diligence of our King’s community since the pandemic started,” says Dr. David Malloy, King’s President. “We look forward to welcoming all of you back to studying, teaching, researching, working and living on campus, in person this fall.”
Masking will still be required for everyone who attends the July 6 celebration of our 2020-2021 graduates at Western University. This is a ceremony for those who did not have the opportunity to participate in a traditional Convocation ceremony due to the pandemic.
Our vaccination policy and self-screening procedures remain in place. We will communicate updates before the fall term begins.
If you have any further questions, please refer to our COVID-19 FAQs.
I thank you again for all you have done so that King’s can remain a place to be, in person, for our community.
