A student’s time at King’s does not only provide them with a chance to gain knowledge but also to assume leadership roles to acquire skills and experience that will help set their resume apart when it is time to begin their job search. Start planning now for leadership opportunities for the 2020-2021 academic year.

“Earning your degree is important certainly; it one part of a double-sided whole. The other side is the opportunities King’s provides for leadership, experiential learning, and a whole range of activities that support and enhance the knowledge and skills gained in your course work. We want to see students build both sides of this whole before they graduate,” says Doreen Vautour, Associate Dean of Students.

Student Affairs has many different leadership opportunities at King’s. First-year students are familiar with the Residence Staff and Sophs from interacting with students in those positions. However, there are others, including positions with the King’s Student Council (KUCSC), International Peer Guides and many others. Upper Year students still have the opportunity to become involved with King’s Academic Mentoring Program (KAMP), as mentors are recruited specifically from third and fourth-year students.

“The range of student leadership opportunities at King’s allow students to both apply and gain skills that are critical for their future careers and education. At the same time, it engages our students to make a difference at King’s and in our local community. This an embodiment of the ‘Be and Become’ philosophy in action,” says Joe Henry, Dean of Students.

“Being in a leadership role has given me a kind of confidence in my abilities and myself, which I did not have before. I find it immensely helpful in all areas of my life. I have confidence and faith in whatever I am doing and found my voice to speak up. I encourage all students to participate in some kind of leadership role in school or otherwise because it always sets one up on the path to success by developing personal skills,” says Nistha Chakraborty, Third Year Psychology Honours and Western Thought and Civilization who has been a member of KUCSC, an International Bridging Assistant and International Peer Guide.
