Learn what STARS Learning Lab has to offer
February 4, 2019
The King’s community is invited to visit to the STARS (Skills and Technology for Academic Resiliency and Success) Learning Lab (Wemple 022) as part of their Open House, being held on February 27, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The Open House will offer coffee and cake and the chance for those attending to win door prizes.
The event will serve as an opportunity to meet the Peer Learning Coaches and learn more about the services and supports available through this peer-to-peer coaching and mentoring initiative that facilitates students’ skill development and confidence in utilizing learning skills and everyday educational technology.
“The STARS Peer Learning Coaches are excited to share with all of King’s students what they’ve experienced about learning and technology as they’ve developed their own skills since the Learning Lab opened in September. They’ve applied strategies to their own education and can now help others to become more effective and efficient students. This Open House is an opportunity to showcase the support they can provide fellow students,” says Dr. Adrienne Sauder, Learning Skills Strategist at King’s.
The STARS Learning Lab gives students one-on-one access to fully trained peer coaches to help them develop a variety of scholastic skills through guided learning in a relaxed and supported environment. The Peer coaches are trained in a number of areas, including time management, information organization, note-taking and building confidence for classroom presentations. Students will be able to learn new skills and improve on the skills they already have to assist with taking tests, notes, and other skills such as time management and study strategies.
The STARS Learning Lab also offers individualized help with exam preparation, including multiple choice exams, essay exams, and study planning, while Learning Skills Services offers drop-in seminars that cover a range of exam preparation topics.
You can visit the STARS Learning Lab by making an appointment for Tuesdays 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. and Thursdays 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. or visiting during their drop-in sessions on Wednesdays 1:00-4:00 p.m.
