King's student first Mustang drafted by Canadian Premier soccer League
January 9, 2024
Congratulations to Ibrahem Saadi!
The first-year Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) student, who plays centre-back for the Western Mustangs men’s soccer team, was selected by the B.C.-based Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League. By being selected in the second round (14th overall), he is the first Mustang to be drafted by the League. Saadi says he feels “proud and privileged” by the accomplishment.
Saadi started in 11 matches for the Mustangs in 2023. He was recognized as the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West Rookie of the Year and was named to the OUA West All-Star First Team.
Saadi says it is his passion to play soccer and considers it “the best sport in the world.” He came to King’s for the great programs offered and because “it’s a great place to be.” Becoming a Western Mustang was a natural, as “it is my hometown university, with great programs athletically and academically.”
“We are very proud to see King’s student-athletes reach their goals, both in the classroom or on playing field. We congratulate Ibrahem on his success and look forward to cheering him on in the Canadian Professional Soccer League,” says Joe Henry, Dean of Students.
