July 22, 2019
King’s is pleased to announce Rev. Mark Sargent, BA '83 (Philosophy), has been named the new Chair, Board of Directors and Kapil Lakhotia, BA ’02 (Economics), has been named the new Vice-Chair. Both appointments became effective July 1, 2019.
Rev. Sargent, a Priest, Director of Priest Personnel, and Coordinator of Catholic Pastoral Care in Health Care Institutions for the Diocese of London, served as Vice-Chair to Dr. Kelly Regan in her role as President of the Board since 2017. Rev. Sargent was also the Chair of the Selection Committee, which recently recommended Dr. David C. Malloy as King’s ninth Principal. A former member of the Canadian Forces, Rev. Sargent was ordained to the priesthood in May 1987 for the Diocese of London.
“It is an exciting time to be involved with the King’s community, especially as we envision what we will look like as we grow into our newly acquired property. As the new Board Chair, I look forward to supporting our College as it reaches into the future to carry our Catholic mission in new and dynamic ways: forming the next generation of leaders and visionaries, strengthening our connections to our alumni and the wider community, and being present to those on the margins of our society,” says Rev. Sargent.
Lakhotia is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the London Economic Development Corporation. He has an Honours degree in Economics from King’s and a Masters of Economics from the University of Waterloo. Lakhotia has over two decades of educational, professional, and voluntary experience, and he also taught economics at King’s (2005-2010).
“I’m excited for my new role and continued service on the King’s University College Board of Directors. As a proud alumnus of King’s, I will continue to work hard to support the strategic future, while staying true to the mission, vision, and values of my alma mater,” says Lakhotia.
Rev. Sargent succeeds Dr. Regan, Emergency Physician, London Health Science Centre, and Associate Professor, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, who became Chair in October 2017. Lakhotia succeeds Rev. Sargent in his role as Vice-Chair.
