Dear King’s Community,
On June 1st, King’s raised the Progress Pride flag on our campus, joining organizations and individuals around the world in celebrating equality, tolerance and acceptance for all persons who identify as LGBTQ2S+.
As well, this week we flew the Our London Family flag showing our support for the Muslim community during the sad anniversary of the tragic death of the Afzaal family two years ago.
These flags are but symbols; however, they are symbols that we take very seriously and display with considerable thought and purpose.
The Progress Pride flag symbolizes our unwavering commitment to equality, inclusivity, and love. It was chosen by a committee at King’s to serve as a powerful reaffirmation that we do not tolerate any form of hate, intolerance, or discrimination. We have made progress towards equality and inclusion for all – that King’s is a place for all to belong – and we also know there is more work that lies ahead to further inclusivity and diversity. Our new Department of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization (EDID) led by Jennifer Slay, is starting this work.
The LGBTQ2S+ community has our unwavering support to have the rights, dignity, and humanity afforded to all people at King’s, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We respect the uniqueness of each person and their right to express themselves authentically, without fear or prejudice.
Hate and discrimination have no place here. Our goal is to be a safe and inclusive place for everyone, where acceptance prevails and everyone flourishes. Let us continue to educate ourselves and others, to advocate for equality, and to challenge the barriers that still exist.
