English professor will speak at Poetry and the Essay conference

The Poetry and the Essay conference is a three-day event that will bring together poets and scholars to explore the space where poetry intersects with the essay. It will be held at the Kelburn Campus of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand from December 6-8, 2017.
Dr. Rae will deliver the keynote address at the beginning of the conference on the morning of December 6. His address is entitled “The Vogue of the Lyric Essay: Anne Carson and the Seneca Review.” He will also participate in the conference’s closing panel, “Lyric, Thought, Memory: Connections, Conclusions and Loose Ends”
The program includes panel discussions, readings of academic papers, readings with discussion and presentations.
Dr. Rae is the author of the monograph From Cohen to Carson: The Poet’s Novel in Canada (2008) and editor of George Bowering: Bridges to Elsewhere (2010), a special issue of the journal Open Letter. He earned a SSHRC Insight Development Grant for his Mapping Stratford Culture project, which aims to develop an interdisciplinary cultural history of this Canadian arts hub.
Dr. Rae received a Moore Institute Fellowship at the University of Ireland, Galway, in 2016 for his work on the Stratford Festival and the Irish Literary Revival.
