August 2, 2018
Dr. Lysack presented "Emily Brontë, Weather Observer" on July 27 at a joint conference of the Victorian Studies Association of Western Canada and the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals. The conference, which was called The Body and the Page in Victorian Culture, took place in Victoria, British Columbia from July 26-28 and attracted a host of international literary scholars and historians.
This paper considered Brontë’s poetry, new materialism, and the ecological turn. It derives from her new research project on nineteenth-century British literature and weather.
Dr. Lysack is a professor in the English program at King's and the author of two books, the most recent of which is the SSHRC-funded Chronometres: Devotional Literature, Duration, and Victorian Reading (forthcoming from Oxford University Press).
