On January 27, 2025, Dr. Robert Ventresca, King’s Interim President, hosted a celebratory luncheon to honour the recipients of this year’s President’s National Scholarships. The event underscores King’s commitment to academic excellence and acknowledges the hard work of our new students.

“Your hard work, dedication, and academic excellence have set you apart, and we are incredibly proud of your achievements. Congratulations to each of you, and thank you for inspiring us all! As you continue your academic journey, know that we are here to continue supporting you every step of the way,” Dr. Ventresca told the students.

Win Ni, a Childhood and Youth Studies student; Francis Chan, a Management and Organizational Studies (MOS) student; and Dylan Gray, a Social Science student, were the recipients of the President’s National Entrance Scholarship, which recognizes their outstanding achievements as they embark on their academic journeys at King’s. They were awarded the President’s National Entrance Scholarship, a prestigious $5,000 award introduced this year, made possible through the generous support of the King’s Foundation and Alumni.

Chan shared the unique experience of receiving the scholarship, recounting how Alexis Christie from Enrolment Services personally flew to Vancouver College to deliver the award. “It felt very personalized, like if I didn’t seize that opportunity, I might never have another like it. It demonstrated how welcoming the King’s community is,” Chan reflected.

“This scholarship has motivated me to work hard and to do better. I love King’s, and I look forward to seeing what the next three years have in store,” says Chan.

Sophie Keunecke, an Arts student, was awarded the Gerald Killan Regis Entrance Scholarship, also valued at $5,000. This scholarship recognizes the full-time first-year undergraduate student with the highest admissions average.

Keunecke expressed how King’s supportive environment influenced the decision to enroll. “The smaller class sizes made the transition from high school to university less stressful and offered the opportunity for one-on-one connections with professors,” Keunecke said.

With the scholarship being renewable, Keunecke feels inspired to actively participate in class and fully engage with the King’s community. “The support here pushes me to succeed,” Keunecke shared.

Himm Lai, a Social Science student; Nora Bauer, a Management and Organizational Studies (MOS) student; Karleigh Bennett, a Social Science student; and Logan Todd, a Social Science student, received the President’s Regis Entrance Scholarship, a $5000 scholarship offered to undergraduate students with the highest admissions averages.

Lai likes the tight-knit community at King’s and saw a path at King’s. “I felt like I am able to make connections with professors and peers that will lead me to pursuing law school in the future,” says Lai. The scholarship has provided Lai “with a sense of financial independence and makes me feel like I am working for myself by earning this scholarship.”

King’s extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the recipients of the President’s National Scholarships. Your dedication and achievements inspire us all, and we look forward to celebrating your continued success during your time at King’s!
