King’s University College Students’ Council (KUCSC) will be led by newly appointed president, Ben Kitching, who officially started his term on May 1, 2020. Despite the unexpected turn of events this spring, KUCSC is carrying on with its work for the upcoming year.

President Kitching is honoured and excited for the opportunity to make a positive impact this year. Kitching is going into his fourth year in Honours Specialization in Political Science and King’s Scholar, with a certificate in Critical Security Studies. He has been a very active member of the KUCSC, previously serving as the Deputy Speaker in his second year. He later served as Executive Assistant to the President for two months and completed the rest of his third year as Chief Financial Officer.

Kitching believes his passion for advocacy and politics as well as his extensive experience within KUCSC has prepared him for presidency. “I had many ideas for what I wanted to see improved at King’s and decided to run to try and make that vison for the future of King’s a reality,” says Kitching.

Kitching has several goals he hopes to accomplish this term. “I ran for president on a platform that included three pillars of advocacy, student spaces, and improving Students’ Council.” A few of his focuses include supporting student mental health, promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion, improving parking and giving a voice to students during plans to develop the former seminary lands now owned by King’s.

“I am very thankful to the students at King’s for placing their faith in me and I am excited for the upcoming year,” says Kitching. “I'm looking forward to working with all of the other student leaders at King’s and seeing everything that we can accomplish together.”
