April 29, 2024

Study Permit – Off Campus Work Temporary Public Policy

As of April 29, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that off-campus work hours for international students will return to the 20 hour-per-week limit as of May 1, 2024.

Note: As we head into the summer session, students who have a scheduled academic break can continue working unlimited hours.

The Canadian government announced a cap on new study permits for the next two years. For initial study permit applications submitted after January 22, 2024, undergraduate international students must now include an attestation letter from the Ontario provincial government. Current study permit holders, and masters, PhD or other post-graduate program students are exempt from this requirement.

We will provide details about how to acquire the attestation letter when the process is finalized.

As of January 1, 2024, the minimum financial requirement for living expenses for new study permit applications is $20,635 for an individual student.
