Morning presentations:
John Densky - Snapshots of Addiction
John Densky is a local documentary photographer who has followed the lives of several young people (under 25) addicted to prescription drugs (pharmaceutical opiates). John, along with one of the people he has photo-graphed, will share insights about a community often absent from the table when policies are made. John will address the triangle of addiction, mental health and homelessness, the physical and mental effects of long term drug abuse, needs beyond and after detox, and harm reduction within the community.
Shani Kingston-MacClure & Betty Edwards - Collaboration = Best Practice
Shani Kingston-MacClure, MSW, RSW is a social worker in the Adult Mental Health Care Program at London Health Sciences Centre. Shani will present about the collaborative efforts of service providers involved with the No Fixed Address project, a Community-University Research Alliance (CURA) initiative. The project resulted in improved services for homeless people in London.
Betty Edwards, MEd is the Community Research Co-ordinator at CAN-VOICE, an organization that provides education and social support for Consumers/Survivors of the mental health system. Betty is the Community
Co-Director on an ongoing CURA project focused on Poverty and Social Inclusion.

Gloria Chaim - Concurrent Disorders: Knowing What to Look For and Knowing What to Do
Gloria Chaim, MSW, RSW is the Deputy Clinical Director in the Child, Youth and Family Program at the
Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. She is an Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Adjunct Lecturer, School of Social Work, University of Toronto. The prevalence of concurrent disorders is frequently underestimated and as a result systems and services are often not set up to adequately identify and address them. This presentation will provide an overview of concurrent disorders and relevant best practice principles, models of treatment and resources. System context, barriers and facilitators to identifying and
addressing concurrent concerns will be discussed.
